Millions of Canadians expected to participate in GivingTuesday this holiday season

Now in its sixth year, GivingTuesday is a global movement for giving and volunteering, taking place each year after Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Considered the “Opening Day of the giving season,” it’s a time when charities, companies and individuals join together and rally for their favourite causes. This year, GivingTuesday takes place on November 27, 2018.

GivingTuesday is a movement for individuals and organizations who want to spread the act of giving back, inspire kindness and generosity, and help others in big and small ways, leading up to the holiday season. There are more than 6,500 partner organizations registered in Canada and more than 40 local community movements (cities, towns and provinces).

GivingTuesday is not just about fundraising. It is about giving back to the community and donating time to worthwhile causes, whether by donating blood, collecting for a food drive, helping a neighbour or volunteering.

In 2017, an estimated 6 million Canadians took part in GivingTuesday.

The movement has exceeded all expectations, with a massive impact on donations, e.g. an increase in donations of + 468% on CanadaHelps.org since before GivingTuesday began in 2012.

Organizations and companies are encouraged to get involved with GivingTuesday, whether it is by planning an event focused on giving back, making a donation to a favourite cause or inspiring employees to go out and do good within the community.
